Druzy Pendants

Druzy, drusy, drusie, or druzie--no matter how you spell it, they are simply gorgeous!

When water carrying dissolved silica is forced into a cavity in a rock and rapid cooling occurs, tiny crystals are formed on the surfaces of the rock cavity and form druzy. Most people have heard of a geode. When the crystalline surface is small enough inside the geode,  it is called druzy and is suitable for jewelry.  The surface looks a lot like large collection of crystals of colored sugar. They glisten and shine when the stone is moved or when the light source moves.

To make this sparkling druzy even more beautiful, it can be coated with a permanent thin metal layer by a process called physical vapor deposition.

I offer one of a kind druzy pendants featuring coatings of platinum, silicone,  gold, and titanium to impart a spectacular color array to the natural sparkle. You will also find gorgeous natural druzy (uncoated).

These pendants should be treated like you would treat jewelry with a fine pearl. They should be protected from abrasion and should always be stored separately in the velvet bag I provide.

Jewelry Cleaner: A homemade jewelry cleaner can be made by dissolving about one tablespoonful of Arm and Hammer Washing Soda in a cup of very warm (not hot) water and throwing in a small piece (about one inch) of aluminum foil. Then put the jewelry piece in and let the tiny bubbles work for about one minute or so. Then rinse with reverse osmosis water and gently dry with a tee shirt or other soft cotton material.

You could also clean with a mild dishwashing liquid to soak it a minute or so and then rinse and dry as above. DO NOT USE ULTRASONIC OR STEAM CLEANERS.
